Chutney's are made in every Indian household and each has their style of preparing it. Chutney's are basically condiments and dips and we show you how to make Veld grape Chutney.

South Indian style Chutney goes really well with Dosa, Idli, Uthapam, Vadai.Veld grape chutney is may go to chutney on weekends for breakfast.It is extremely quick and easy to make and its my family favorite chutney.



                              

           Veld grape chutney in Tamil Pirandai

Ingredients:

  • Veld grape (Pirandai) 
  • Onion - 1
  • Green chilli - 2
  • Ginger  - 1
  • Garlic - 1
  • Curry leaves
  • Urad dall
  • Mustard 
  • Tamrind
  • Grated coconut

  




Method:

    1. heat ½ tbsp oil and add 1 tsp urad dal (split husked black gram).

    2.  on a low flame, saute the urad dal till they start turning maroonish brown.

    3.  once the lentils get a maroonish brown color add  Veldgrape(Pirandai), green chilli, ginger,garlic,onion,grated coconut.

    4. Add some Tamrind 

    5. Add salt as required 

    6. Stir and saute till the above ingredients softer.About 6 to 7 minutes on a low flame. 

     7. Once all the ingredients mixture cool.Add them to a chutney grinder or a small blender.Add 2 tbsp of water and grind to a smooth paste you can also add 1 or 2 tbsp of water if required.

     8. In the same pan or a different pan add 1/2 tbsp oil and 1/2 tbsp of urad dal, mustard seeds, 7-8 curry leaves.Saute till the curry leaves become crisp.

    9. Then veld grape chutney is done and ready to serve with idli or dosa,uthapam or snacks like masala vada and dal vada.
